HOW TO USE BAITBAGZ
If you are a bait fisherman, you surely have experienced the many problems associated with keeping fresh natural bait secured on your hook.
There is nothing more frustrating then to carefully put natural bait on a hook, and then watch it fly off on the cast. It's costly, time consuming, and aggravating.
Time spent preparing to fish lessens the time for actual fishing. BaitBagz are the perfect solution to this problem. BaitBagz securely contain the bait and are totally odorless and tasteless. An added benefit is that the super fine mesh in BaitBagz often get caught in the teeth of sportfish, giving you extra time to hook up. The photos shown are examples of various proven methods of using BaitBagz with fresh clams, Menhaden (aka bunker, pogies, mossbacks, bugmouths, alewifes, and fat-backs), chicken livers, fresh salmon eggs and many other fresh types of bait. All techniques work, as long as you thread the hook through the bait AND the BaitBagz. It is also very easy to make the bait virtually snag proof by burying the barb of the hook through one side of the BaitBagz after sealing the opening.
Expectations: It is important to understand the purpose of the BaitBagz...they are NOT meant to be cast and retrieved, and they are NOT meant to be re-used. You cast your bait out as far as you can, AND LEAVE IT THERE!
The sole intent of using BaitBagz is to insure a perfect presentation, as far out as possible, thus increasing your chance of success!
Although BaitBagz are very tough, in an ocean or rocky environment they will tear if you drag them over shredded clam shells or rocks. Also, BaitBagz are manufactured with breakaway seams so when a larger fish picks at the bag they will get a mouthful of flavor, and hopefully engulf the whole bait. Small "toothy" fish, like bluefish will pick at your BaitBagz and eventually tear it. Crabs are also problematic, although they will only rip open your BaitBagz and remove the entrails. Rarely do they get the meaty "foot" off the hook if you are fishing fresh clams. Your presentation will still be good and your bait will still be effective and should be left in place.
This on the beach photo shows a popular Hi-Lo rig for fishing clams. Notice that both clams are entirely contained in the BaitBagz. This rig was cast from an 10' Tica rod with a Penn 525 reel spooled with 50 lb. Power Pro and a 6 ounce pyramid weight. The cast was made into a slight East wind with as much force as possible. After "soaking" the baits for 1 hour and 8 minutes, the rig was very gently retrieved...
This photo shows the results. Both baits are still intact as you can see. This is one of the unprecedented advantages of using BaitBagz. You can be confident that your bait is "working" no matter how hard you cast or how long you wait to retrieve and freshen your bait.
Fishing with popular fresh baits poses many problems. Most significant is that you just can't can't keep the best baits on the hook! For example, all experienced surf fisherman know that using an entire clam for bait is most desirable. It is also impossible to do, even when securing with smelly rubber bands, dental floss, or elastic thread stolen from your wife's sewing kit. As a result, when making the long casts necessary while fishing the surf, the bait is thrown off the hook more often than not. This of course requires reeling the rig back in, re-baiting, and starting the process over again. Crabs and other crustaceans eating the bait are also annoying. BaitBagz solves both problems. Our biodegradable mesh pouches are woven from very strong natural filaments. In fact, you will have to use braid scissors to cut them off your hook. They are tasteless and odorless. They are extremely durable as there are over 500 filaments per bag, each two-thousandths of an inch thick. After the bait is placed inside the pouch, a sharp hook should be threaded across the open end, and if possible, through the bait as well. These bait rigs can then be cast as hard as you desire, without fear of throwing your bait off the hook. Your casts will be considerable longer and the time you spend actually fishing will be increased. Your bait presentation will be the best it can be.
Here are photos of a rig using a whole 5" peanut bunker and a clam in our BaitBagz. Notice the BaitBagz is virtually transparent. Before using the BaitBagz, we tried throwing a Hi-Lo rig with both baits conventionally hooked. Using the same outfit as above, a long cast was attempted. Needless to say, the results were not good. The bunker flew off the hook completely. Only the foot ("tongue") of the clam stayed on. After re-rigging using BaitBagz as shown, another cast was made. Both baits stayed on the hook, as we knew they would.
